Elisa Capitanio ‘Fade In’ and other events

Fade In is a new exhibition of paintings by Elisa Capitanio in the [ MADE ] Store and Gallery. This series is inspired by recurring lucid dreams experienced by the artist.

Elisa Capitanio is an Italian born artist, who lives and works in Dublin. Elisa paints primarily in abstract, dream-like impasto using acrylic paints. The series of six paintings explores a range of warm and cold tones – colour being a primary focus of investigation for Elisa. With a background in graphic design and a prolific career as a fine art painter, Elisa has delved into the visual pleasures of contrasts and compliments without getting stuck in conceptualism. Her paintings have a trompe l’oeil quality; some resemble photographs of dramatically lit textured surfaces. The eye is fooled by her technique of combining thick brush strokes with sprayed paint. One might be forgiven for ignoring the fact that the images contain coloured paint at all. Instead, the initial effect might lead the viewer to perceive that the striations and curves are made with pure white paint and lit with angled, coloured lights and digitally altered shadows.

Fade In will run until the end of February.
